1. KMEW is Born

It all began with a conversation among visionaries.
At an event filled with innovative architectural minds, the team behind KMEW met three renowned architects—each unafraid to challenge the status quo. “Is the look of Japanese residential neighborhoods really something to be proud of?” they asked, their tone both sharp and honest.

The architects admired the authenticity of materials—wood, stone, iron, and even cement—craving something real, not a synthetic imitation. They challenged KMEW to create building materials with true substance, materials that would not just blend in, but elevate the very fabric of Japan’s cityscapes.

The architects’ passion sparked a revolution. For the first time, KMEW began to truly re-examine the meaning and value of materials. Inspired by the story of a home that was celebrated in an architectural magazine for installing KMEW siding upside down—just to showcase its raw texture—the team realized: authenticity matters.

Thus began the journey. SOLIDO was born from a desire to offer materials with an unmistakable, honest character—made to inspire pride in every detail.

2. SOLIDO and Efflorescence

What does it mean to create a “real” building material?
For KMEW, it meant honoring the unique beauty of cement, and refusing to mask it with artificial paint. Instead, they left the surface exposed—celebrating the texture and subtle shifts created by nature itself.

In the world of concrete, “efflorescence”—the appearance of soft white patterns during the curing process—was once seen as a flaw. At SOLIDO, it’s an emblem of authenticity. Every panel tells its own story, marked by the individual signature of the material itself.

Choosing to showcase, not hide, this living character is the essence of SOLIDO. The result is a product with a strong, uncompromising personality—a material that stands proudly on its own, just like stone or steel.

3. Sustainable SOLIDO

From the very beginning, SOLIDO’s creators knew that true luxury means responsibility.
They chose not to rely on chemically pure, highly processed resources, but instead on carefully selected sustainable materials. Cement is blended with fly ash from power plants, pulp fibers from non-recyclable waste paper, and offcuts and scraps collected from both construction sites and KMEW’s own factories.

Even the color palette has a story. For the very first SOLIDO panels, coffee grounds from some of the world’s largest coffee chains were recycled into the mix, softening the cool tones of cement with a natural, inviting warmth.

Today, SOLIDO’s signature “Type F Coffee” panels are made with approximately 60% recycled content (and over 90% if you include the cement itself).
This dedication to sustainability is not a trend—it’s a standard. For those who expect the best and demand integrity, SOLIDO is the new benchmark.
